Greetings and welcome to this blog (which was established Fall Term, 2008) at the University of Washington’s School of Marine Affairs.
It was established before the University was thrown into serious budgetary difficulties by the state legislature.
Since that happened, the position of SMA Career Services Coordinator was eliminated, and the website has changed from being SMA-sponsored to being sponsored by me, Dr. Kate Duttro. (I originated the blog, back when the university was paying me a salary).
I’ll admit that I haven’t quite decided what to do with the blog, as I don’t have unlimited time to continue it, but at the same time, it seems a shame to simply drop it, because I am a collector of useful information and it isn’t useful unless someone can use it. So, I’ll let it limp along for a while and we’ll see what happens.
As I’m now working as an independent career coach/trainer, that of course means that I need to find paying customers. However, if SMA students have career-related questions that I can help with, I’ll be happy to do that if I can answer them in the blog (and you can be anonymous). You’ll get career advice and I’ll get a blog post.
Thus, I welcome any questions, comments and contributions in the comment boxes, at the bottom of most pages (although I haven’t been able to turn them on in the blog itself…)
Feel free to contact me through my former university email, which is still good, although I don’t check it every day – more like weekly.
All best wishes, and do stay in touch!
Cheers,
Kate

PS – I’d also like to suggest that everyone join LinkedIn and the SMA group, SMA at the UW, as there is actually a chance for joining discussions, listing news items and job postings – in short, networking!
